PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Hurricane Gert formed late Monday night in the Atlantic Ocean, becoming the second hurricane of the Atlantic season.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Gert was about 445 miles west of Bermuda late Monday and had maximum sustained winds of 75 mph. The storm was moving north at 12 mph Thursday morning.

"This system will not be a threat to land as it stays over the open waters of the Atlantic," Local 10 News meteorologist Julie Durda said.
Durda said forecasters are monitoring three other areas of disturbed weather in the Atlantic. One has a 40 percent chance of development over the next five days, while the others have just a 20 percent chance of formation.
Hurricane Franklin became the first hurricane of the 2017 season last week. The storm made landfall on Mexico's Gulf Coast early Thursday as a Category 1 hurricane.
