Subtropical storm Ana forms off southeast US coast

Storm about 170 miles SSE of Myrtle Beach

MIAMI – Subtropical storm Ana formed off the southeast U.S. coast Thursday evening, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

At 11 p.m. Thursday, the storm was about 170 miles south-southeast of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.

Weather officials said the storm was moving north at 2 mph.

A tropical storm watch was issued from Edisto Beach, South Carolina, to Cape Lookout, North Carolina. A tropical storm watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours, officials said.
