PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Tropical Depression No. 8 and No. 9 formed Sunday, the National Hurricane Center reported.
Both systems could strengthen within the next few days and become Tropical Storm Ian and Tropical Storm Julia.
Tropical Depression No. 8 formed in the western Atlantic Ocean between the U.S. and Bermuda. As of 11 p.m. Sunday, the system had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph and was moving west-northwest at about 10 mph.
The center of the cyclone may pass offshore of the outer banks of North Carolina on Tuesday, forecasters said. The latest advisory stated the system was about 350 miles west of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
Tropical Depression No. 9 had maximum sustained winds of about 35 mph Sunday night and was about 60 miles south of Key West as of Sunday afternoon.
The system is expected to produce 1-4 inches of rain in South Florida through Wednesday and flood and flash flood advisories are possible, according to the NHC. Some areas in the Keys are could get about 6 inches of rain.
