Tropical system set to bring rain into South Florida

Stormy weather can start as early as Sunday evening

MIAMI – Hurricane Specialist Max Mayfield and meteorologists Betty Davis, Trent Aric and Jennifer Correa report a tropical wave was weakening, but was still expected to bring stormy weather to South Florida.

The rain could become heavier and more widespread by Monday morning, when windy weather is expected.

Scattered thunderstorms are also highly probable for the rest of the week in Monroe, Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

Authorities were preparing for the possibility of flooding. Officials in North Miami were giving away free sand bags to help homeowners prepare for potential flooding.

Miami-Dade County mosquito control has been spraying some 6,000 drains with chemicals to kill larva in order to reduce the public risk for the Zika virus.
