70 percent chance disturbed weather area will develop in next 5 days

System may become tropical storm, subtropical storm

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. ā€“ The National Hurricane Center in Miami said there is now a 70 percent chance that an area of disturbed weather between Bermuda and the Bahamas will develop into something greater in the next five days.

Forecasters on Thursday increased the potential for the area of disturbed weather to develop into a tropical or subtropical depression, possibly as early as Friday.

"There's going to be something forming," Local 10 News meteorologist Jennifer Correa said.

Correa said the system would likely impact the southeastern U.S. Computer models have it tracking to the Carolinas by the weekend.

"Meanwhile, back here at home, we could be dealing with rough surf, maybe some breezy conditions, as well, and high rip-current risk," Correa said.

The system is expected to continue to track to the west-northwest toward the southeast U.S. coast.
