(LAKANA) - Leashes won't be just for dogs, if an Alaska council votes to approve a cat leash law.

The Kenai council is considering the proposal as a solution to resident complaints about roaming cats, according to The Associated Press.

The proposal also mentions issues with a growing cat population at the city's animal shelter and how it affects resources.

The vote is scheduled for Oct. 5.
