Participating Dairy Queen locations will be marking the first day of spring with a free ice cream cone, a company press release announced.

On March 20, participating non-mall Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill locations in the U.S. will be giving away one small vanilla, soft serve cone per person, while supplies last.

"We're excited for our fourth-annual Free Cone Day," Maria Hokanson, executive vice president of marketing for American Dairy Queen Corp., said in the news release. "This day has become a spring tradition and a sign that warmer weather is upon us."

During the promotion, Dairy Queen will be collecting donations for local Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Last year, nearly $300,000 was raised in one day for local hospitals.
