Kentucky town mourns loss of first female mayor - a collie

RABBIT HASH, Ky. - A Kentucky town is the mourning the loss of its first female mayor – Lucy Lou, a collie.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Lucy Lou died Sept. 10, at the age of 12.

Lucy Lou made a wide range of TV appearances, including on Japanese TV and “CBS Sunday Morning.”

The town of Rabbit Hash - population 315 as of the 2010 Census - has a history of canine mayors. Lucy Lou was their third, and she also served as spokesdog for a woman’s crisis center.

The Enquirer reported that Lucy Lou served from 2008 to 2016, when she voluntarily stepped down to raise funds to rebuild a historic general store.
