Shelter saves severely neglected poodle

2 lbs. of fur shaved from dog

FRESNO, Calif. (KGPE via CNN Wire) -- Jareth the poodle is getting all the love and treats he could ever need, but he wasn’t always so well loved.

When he was surrendered to the Valley Animal Center, he was severely neglected with pounds of matted fur that had contained stickers and foxtail. The shelter said he’d been living like that for at least six months.

"It was really heavy. He wasn't moving very much, very weak," said Devon Prendergast with VAC.

The shelter sprang into action, and after a little TLC, Jareth was transformed.

"They were able to remove a huge foxtail that was in one of his eyes,” Prendergast said.

Two pounds of fur came off, and Jareth was finally frisky again.

After receiving some vaccinations and getting neutered, he’ll be ready for adoption.
