DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – Broward Sheriff's Office homicide detectives are investigating after two people were found dead Wednesday morning at a home in Deerfield Beach.
According to BSO spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright, the bodies were discovered by some coworkers of a 41-year-old woman, who conducted a welfare check at her home in the area of Northeast 39th Street and Fourth Avenue.
Coleman-Wright said the coworkers found the woman's body, as well as the body of a 24-year-old man, when they walked through the front door, which was open.
The woman lives at the home alone, authorities said.
According to Coleman-Wright, the woman worked at a doctor's office and at a restaurant. She said the woman's coworkers from the doctor's office called 911.
Deputies and fire personnel arrived at the scene around 9:40 a.m.
"I don't know if it's a crime scene. I'm just curious. I just want my neighbors to be OK. That's my only concern right now," neighbor Carolyn Thorpe said. "When you come out and you see and I come out and I see the news and a crime scene truck, I'm like, 'It must be something tragic.'"
Another person who lives in the area told Local 10 News reporter Liane Morejon she thought she heard gunshots late Tuesday night.
"We heard about six or seven shots. Pow, pow, pow," the woman, identified only as Catherine, said. "I kept saying, 'That's no firecracker. Someone is shooting over there.'"
Deputies would not confirm whether the woman and the man had been shot.
Homicide and crime scene detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
