Derek Shore is an award-winning journalist who came to Local 10 in January 2016. Derek joins WPLG from northern California, where he worked as a reporter at KOVR in Sacramento and KNTV in San Francisco.
In California, he covered dozens of devastating wildfires, the Napa earthquake and an FBI raid on the state capitol.
Prior to his years in California, Derek worked in Texas as an anchor in the Waco news market and then as a reporter in El Paso. In El Paso, Derek covered the ongoing issues on the U.S.-Mexico border, including the drug cartel wars and ongoing immigration issues. He also served as a consumer reporter responsible for the arrest and prosecution of business owners who were accused of scamming customers out of thousands of dollars.
Derek is originally from Tucson, Arizona, and is a graduate of the Walter Cronkite School at Arizona State University. Beyond his experience as a reporter, Derek spent time working in the research department at the "Late Show with David Letterman" in New York and as a producer at KTVK in Phoenix.
He is excited for a new chapter in his career, telling the stories of South Florida. In his off time, he spends time at the beach with his partner Ivan and his shih tzu Sophie.
