Amazon opens new hub in Wynwood

Amazon sets its sights on Hispanic market

MIAMI ā€“ Amazon opened up its new hub Wednesday in Wynwood and set its sights on the Hispanic market.

"The artistic culture, the entrepreneur culture is something we love and are trying to embrace," Felipe Millon, of Amazon Prime Now, said.Ā

Amazon has partnered with El Latino, a Doral-based food company that will offer customers staples of Latin food and other hard-to-find products.

"Having grown up here, I knew the Hispanic market and the products that are such a big part of our community," Millon said.Ā

So the next time you're craving tequenos, pan de bono or arepas, you won't have to drive to Doral or Weston.

"You have to have tremendous technology to be efficient and deliver on time, and we just didn't have that," Maria Ibanez, of El Latino, said.

At 50,000 square feet, the warehouse is one of Amazon's largest Prime Now facilities, but its two distribution and fulfillment centers in South Florida dwarf the hub in size.

The facility includes a walk-in freezer, allowing for doorstep delivery of chilled food.

The opening comes on the heels of Amazon moving into the grocery business with its nearly $14 billion purchase of Whole Foods earlier this month.

"It's ultra-fast delivery,"Ā Millon said. "We don't have the breadth of selection we do on Amazon.com, so we have a smaller selection available."
