WPLG-Local 10 News wins Broward County Public Schools Partner of the Year Award

Examples of effective altruism mark BCPS Community Involvement Awards

LAUDERHILL, Fla. — Broward County Public Schools celebrated the annual Community Involvement Awards on Tuesday at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center.

This year’s theme for the celebration of examples of effective altruism through community partnerships was “Catch the Spirit.”

Carolyn Stewart, the district’s community relations coordinator, said she was thrilled that WPLG-Local 10 News was the recipient of the Partner of the Year Award.

“We are just so appreciative that we recognize everything that they have done for our students and our schools,” Stewart said.

Mayte Padron Cordones, the WPLG-Local 10 News community relations director, accepted the award from Superintendent Howard Hepburn.

Some of the WPLG-Local 10 News projects with BCPS have focused on promoting literacy and addressing food insecurity.

About 800 guests, including 200 nominees, were invited to attend a 9 a.m. breakfast followed by the 10 a.m. award ceremony.

Microsoft Elevate and BrightStar Credit Union were the sponsors of the event.
