Thursday Night Food Truck Round-Up

Rickenbacker Causeway - Across MAST Academy & Miami Marine Stadium

Time: 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Starting Thursday, January 5, the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces department and Rickenbacker Causeway Park Operations will premiere the new “Thursday Night Food Truck Round-Up.”  Guests will enjoy a wide variety of culinary treats served up by popular gourmet food truck vendors, along with picturesque views of Biscayne Bay.

Note: The event will be held every Thursday (weather permitting), with the exception of these block out dates:  Feb. 16 (Progressive Miami International Boat Show and Strictly Sail) and March 23 & 30 (Miami Open Tennis Tournament).

Starting Friday, January 6,  visitors can enjoy the fun of healthy living at this family-style event, featuring fresh locally grown produce for purchase, a live DJ pop-up dance party, a bounce house for the kids, and more.

Hiring Event – City of Miramar Fire Rescue

The City of Miramar Fire Rescue Department will be accepting applications for firefighter and paramedic.  The department will accept the first 400 completed applications and application will ONLY be accepted in person.

Applicants must bring the following:

1. Completed Firefighter Pre-Application Form found below

2. Copy of High School Diploma or equivalent

3. Copy of valid State of Florida Driver’s License

4. Copy of valid State of Florida Firefighter II Certificate

5. Copy of valid State of Florida Paramedic License

6. Current (within 1 year) Broward County Physical Ability Test (PAT)

The Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department wants to help families reconnect with nature and discover the fun and adventure of camping under the stars, with its new Miami EcoAdventures program – “Family Campouts.”  No experience necessary, just bring your own tent, sleeping bag and food to cook over a campfire.  Expert naturalists will assist you every step of the way, as you take part in an owl-walk along forest trails and learn basic camping techniques.

Cost: $15 p/person or $40 for a family of four

The Claremont Trio was formed in 1999 at the Juilliard School. Twin sisters Emily Bruskin, violin, and Julia Bruskin, cello and pianist Andrea Lam are all based in NYC near their namesake: Claremont Avenue. The Claremont Trio is sought after for its thrillingly virtuosic and richly communicative performances.

Dunn is the author of a number of books including “A History Through Black Eyes” and “Black Miami in the Twentieth Century.” The former Florida International University professor and documentarian has appeared on a variety of television news programs and cited in a number of publications.

Kite Day

This family fun event, presented by the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department and Skyward Kites, aims to instill the joy and value of kiting by bringing families together for memorable experiences in the great outdoors. The festival features kite-building classes, kite-flying demonstrations and kite competitions.  Plus, monster kites, including a 100-foot squid, a 30-foot dragon, a 30-foot scuba man, a 30-foot “Nemo” fish, among others. There will also be food and refreshments for purchase and a live concert.

Favorite classic cars of all makes and models will make the scene for the 12th annual “Classics by the Bay” classic car show.  In addition to the four-wheeled beauties, car lovers and their families will enjoy arts and crafts displays, live music, food vendors, and a bounce house.

There will be a live band showcase, a wonderful selection of Children’s activities, including a mobile video game van and an interactive art booth.   There will also be vast food offerings and chances to win some major raffle prizes as well as some wonderful artwork handcrafted by local artisans.

8th Annual ANF Group Tour de Broward

Miramar Regional Park

16801 Miramar Parkway

Miramar, FL

Time: 7 a.m. - 1 p.m.

This event will feature 50 and 100K bicycle rides, a 5K timed run, 3K walk, and the “Power of Play Kid Zone,” a sports-themed, fun area for children 13 or younger.

The 2016 event broke all previous records, raising more than $500K and positively impacting many services provided to thousands of children who require outpatient visits, surgery and other medical services at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. Organizers are hoping for another successful year in 2017, given the event dollars are earmarked for the expansion of pediatric programs and services.
