MIRAMAR, Fla. – A Miramar teen will be recognized by the Broward County school board on May 25 for his achievements in the classroom and on the athletic field.
Caleb Harris, 14, an eighth-grader at Glades Middle School, will be honored as a County Middle School Scholar Athlete at the Middle School Athletic Association Athlete Awards.

"I feel accomplished and it’s really amazing to have been chosen," Caleb said.
Throughout middle school, Caleb has played on the school's volleyball, basketball, football and track and field teams, while maintaining a 3.9 GPA.
Caleb said his parents support his athletic ambitions, bringing him to practice, picking him up from games and giving him advice.
"For me to make them proud is a really special feeling," he said. "They pushed me hard every day. I can't slack."
Carol Harris said she had her doubts about her son being able to balance sports and school.
"He told me he wants to be an all-rounder," Carol Harris said. "I asked him, 'How are you going to manage all of that with school work?' He said, 'I got it.'"
Harris said Caleb wanted to play football for Florida State University, but now he is setting his eyes elsewhere.
"I want to play basketball at Duke University, a (Division I) school," Caleb said. "When I get to college, I am looking to go into the engineering field. I want to be the first in my family to go to a university as a student-athlete."
Caleb will be attending Everglades High School for the Cambridge Academy program in the fall.
