South Florida theaters host 'Star Wars' film premiere parties

May the force be with 'Star Wars' fans in South Florida on opening weekend

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Theaters across South Florida are hosting premiere parties for the opening of the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

AVENTURA

AMC is also hosting a "Star Wars" marathon event at the Aventura Mall. Guests will see the six previously released "Star Wars" episodes in 2D, ending with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." For tickets, visit www.amctheatres.com/StarsWars.

COCONUT CREEK

From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, costumed characters from "Star Wars" will be at the Silverspot Cinema movie theater taking pictures with fans.

According to the theater, those characters can include Han Solo, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, Chewbacca and stormtroopers.

Specialty "Star Wars"-inspired cocktails and drinks will be served at a close-by lounge. Some specialty drinks include the Cantina Punch and the Emperor's Elixir.

Silverspot Cinema is located at 4441 Lyons Road.

DAVIE

The Cinemark Paradise 24 theater in Davie will have a "Star Wars" marathon, giving fans the opportunity to watch all seven movies back-to-back. The first six movies will be shown in 2D, with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" in 3D.

FORT LAUDERDALE

The AutoNation IMAX 3D Theater in Fort Lauderdale will be showing the film in 2D. Its website says tickets are already sold out until Dec. 22.

Families who don't have tickets can still take part in the "Star Wars" festivities. Characters from the movies will be at the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery and Science. There will be space-themed shows and activities focusing on astronomy that include everything "Star Wars."

Friday and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., children can take part in "Star Wars" face-painting and have their pictures taken with Darth Vader and stormtroopers from the 501st Everglades Squadron.

The museum is located at 401 SW Second St.

NORTH MIAMI BEACH

iPic Theaters in North Miami Beach will be showing 24 hours of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" beginning Friday and continuing throughout Saturday.
