The Key West consumption contest is a highlight of the annual Key Lime Festival.

Contestants are clocked to see who can eat a key lime pie the fastest without using their hands.

Bergman said he wore a yellow swim cap for speed.

"It helps cut through the whipped cream and through the key lime pie so you can get to the crust faster," he said.

Bergman shared his winning strategy.

"If you want to win this contest, don't eat breakfast," Bergman said. "Don't eat a heavy dinner. Don't breathe while you're eating."

Key lime pie was designated Florida's official pie by state legislators in 2006.
