Tobacco Free Florida Week aims to raise awareness about 'Cost of Smoking'

MIAMI – A pack-a-day smoker in Florida can spend more than than $10,500 in just five years. The Tobacco Free Florida estimate doesn't account for the expenses related to healthcare for the smoker or secondhand smoke. 

State health authorities want Floridians who smoke cigarettes to think about the cost of their addiction this week. This year’s theme for Tobacco Free Florida Week, which ends on Saturday, is "The Cost of Smoking."

The state-funded prevention program follows the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations, while offering services like the Tobacco Free Florida's Quit Your Way program, which provides free nicotine replacement therapy.
