Miami Cancer Institute gets $51,000 donation from Hooters

Funds were raised in honor of Kelly Jo Dowd

MIAMI – Hooters of South Florida donated $51,000 to the Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida earlier this month.

The funds for the donation were raised at South Florida Hooters locations in the name of Kelly Jo Dowd, a Hooters restaurant manager who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2007.

The Hooters girls, who were the top fundraisers, took part in the check presentation along with Kristi Quarles, who is the director of marketing for LTP Management, and Dr. Mary Wang, who is an oncologist at the Miami Cancer Institute.

The Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders, who are close partners of both Hooters and Baptist Health South Florida, were also at the presentation.

The Miami Cancer Institute will use the donation toward diagnosis, treatment, clinical trials and follow-up care at its state-of-the-art location.
