Swimming advisory issued for parts of South Beach
Swimmers advised to stay out of water in southernmost portion of South Beach
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A swimming advisory has been issued for parts of South Beach due to a high level of bacteria.
Swimmers are advised to stay out of the water at the beach site located at First Street in the southernmost portion of Miami Beach.
The Florida Department of Health issued the warning after two consecutive samples of beach water exceeded the Federal and State recommended standard for enterococci.
Enterococci can inhabit the intestinal tracts of humans and animals, causing possible disease, infections or rashes.
According to the Department of Health, the prevalence of the bacteria is an indicator of fecal pollution, which may come from storm water run-off, wildlife, pets and human sewage.
