CDC links deadly salmonella outbreak to papayas

ATLANTA – The Centers for Disease Control has announced it is investigating a salmonella outbreak that has been linked to papayas.

Consumers are urged to not eat, and restaurants are being told not to serve, Maradol papayas until the investigation is complete.

The CDC says a total of 47 people have been infected by the outbreak strain of Salmonella Kiambu in 12 states.

One person has died, while twelve others have been hospitalized. Those numbers may have increased due to illnesses reported after June 23, 2017.
