Miami-Dade County leads Florida in confirmed Zika virus cases

4 new cases confirmed in South Florida; another pregnant woman also diagnosed

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Four new travel-related cases of the Zika virus have been confirmed in South Florida, and a fifth person diagnosed in the state is a pregnant woman.

The Florida Department of Health said Monday that there are five new confirmed cases in the state -- one in Broward County and three in Miami-Dade County. The fifth case involves a pregnant woman.

Miami-Dade County leads Florida in the number of confirmed Zika virus patients with 17.

Broward County has the second-largest number of confirmed cases with six.

There are now four total confirmed cases of the Zika virus involving pregnant women. Health officials do not release the counties where pregnant women have been diagnosed.

That brings the total number of confirmed Zika virus cases in Florida to 42.

Alachua County -- 1 case

Brevard County -- 1 case

Broward County -- 6 cases

Hillsborough County -- 3 cases

Lee County -- 3 cases

Miami-Dade County -- 17 cases

Orange County -- 3 cases

Osceola County -- 1 case

Santa Rosa County -- 1 case

Seminole County -- 1 case

St. Johns County -- 1 case

Cases involving pregnant women -- 4

Total number of Floridians infected -- 42
