TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The first sexually transmitted case of the Zika virus for this year has been reported in Pinellas County, the Florida Department of Health announced Tuesday.
Health officials said the patient has not traveled recently, but the patient's partner recently traveled to Cuba and began to feel ill with symptoms consistent with the virus.

Officials said the couple tested positive for Zika.
"The department notified mosquito control and appropriate mosquito reduction activities are taking place," the health department said in a news release.
Officials said there is no evidence of transmission of the Zika virus through mosquitoes currently taking place anywhere in Florida.
So far this year in Florida, there have been 90 travel-related infections of the Zika virus.
Health officials said six patients who locally acquired the virus tested positive early this year, but were exposed to the infected mosquitoes at the end of 2016.
Officials warn people to check the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's list of areas with Zika virus before they travel.
