What are class action lawsuits?

Have you heard the term "class action lawsuit" and wondered what it meant?

These lawsuits, also known as "mass tort litigation," are when a group of people suffering from the same or similar issues caused by the same product sue the drug company together, as a group.

For a class action lawsuit, there usually has to be a minimum number of people in the group. The people in the group typically also have to suffer from a minimum level of damages caused by the drug.

When there is a ruling in the case, the damages awarded are then usually divided amongst the group. Usually the amount of money each person gets is dependent on the level of injuries or illness the person experienced.
