Quack, quack, bark! Husky, duck form unlikely friendship

'Too precious' pets become neighborhood attraction

A Minnesota family's dog lost his best friend, fellow husky Sasha. That's when Quackers the duckling waddled in.

“He was without any friends, and so Max would sit next to (Quackers') pen all the time and I think they just kind of bonded that way,” Patrick Riley told WCCO. “After we let (Quackers) out, they just never left each other’s side.”

The inseparable duo now has its own flock of fans, WCCO reported. The sight of a large 12-year-old dog and the white duck quacking and barking together often attracts rubberneckers.

“Sometimes on my way home, I actually hope they’re out there because they’re just too precious to look at,” neighbor Alisa Godejahn told WCCO.

The pair live on a quiet country road, but they still manage to stop traffic with their cuteness.

“It’s enough to get anyone driving by to do a double-take,” Patrick Riley told WCCO.

“We see people stopping over there all the time. The traffic gets clogged up over there sometimes because of all the pictures getting taken,” Godejahn said.

"They love it. They say it brightens their day. They’re so happy to see this different friendship and love," Kirsten Riley added.

Posing for photos, sleeping, eating, drinking, going for walks -- Max and Quackers do it all together, the family said.

“Some people have said that a duck will find a mate, a companion, and once they have that companion, they’re set,” Kirsten Riley said. “And that’s what Quackers found with Max.”
