1 dead after Deerfield Beach shooting, deputies say

Deputies investige fatal shooting

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – A man was found dead at a Deerfield Beach home Monday, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

Initially, deputies said it appeared that a homeowner fatally shot a would-be intruder, but investigators said there may be more to it than that.

It was about 6:30 p.m. when deputies arrived at 4160 NW Sixth St. They found one man dead, another man believed to be the shooter, a handgun and a third person nearby -- a woman who they're calling a person of interest.

"(This is) very rare," neighbor Glenn Klein said. "I've lived here for 30 years (and) never seen anything like this. I mean, occasional break-ins, but nothing to this extreme."

Early reports were that the shooter was the homeowner and the victim was a man who tried to break in, but authorities can't confirm that yet, saying it's too early in the investigation.

"I heard through neighbors that someone tried to break in the house," Klein said. "The homeowner was home. He shot and killed one of them, and somebody got away."

BSO detectives are working on confirming everyone's identity, but it's still early in the investigation.
