3 killed, 1 critical in Turnpike toll booth crash

FHP says teens were in car stolen in Miramar

TAMARAC, Fla. ā€“

Three people were killed and another person remainsĀ hospitalized in critical condition after a stolen car crashed into a toll booth on Florida's Turnpike early Tuesday in Tamarac.Ā

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky said a preliminary investigation indicates that theĀ driver lost control of theĀ car while approaching the toll plaza near Commercial Boulevard and crashed into the toll booth.Ā

The car flipped over the toll booth, knocking off the air-conditioning unit on top, and landed upside down on the other side of the toll plaza.Ā

All four people inside were ejected. One of them landed on the roof of the toll booth service plaza. Another person was found in the SunPass lanes.

"This had to be one of the most violent crashes that I've seen," Wysocky said.

Wysocky said speed appeared to be a factor in the wreck.

Matthew Bryan, 17, andĀ Kevin Bryan, 18, died at the scene. YosteinĀ Martinez, 18, later died at aĀ hospital.

A woman inside the toll booth at the time of the crash wasn't injured.

Wysocky said the car had been reported stolen in Miramar.

All northbound lanes of the Turnpike were closed between Commerical Boulevard and Atlantic Boulevard for several hours as authorities investigated the crash.

Wysocky said troopers believe all four men in the car weren't wearing seat belts.
