FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Two women were rescued from their car when it went into the New River in Fort Lauderdale early Friday morning.

According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, the women were using the car to ease a boat into the water when the boat pulled the vehicle in at Cooley's Landing, near Southwest Seventh Avenue and Southwest Fourth Street.

Good Samaritans rushed to help get the women out of the fast-moving water. The tide pulled the car 200 feet from where it initially went into the river.

A dive team conducted an operation in the 18-foot deep section of the water, since initially it was unclear if there were any more victims.

One woman was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in serious but stable condition. Her injuries were not immediately known.

The car remained in the water as of Friday morning.
