Memorial held at scene of fatal crash

No charges filed against Jonathan Eismann, who police say was driving SUV that hit, killed Juan Carlos Ruiz

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – A memorial was held Wednesday evening at the scene of a crash in northwest Miami-Dade that killed a husband and father last week while he was waiting for the bus he takes to work.

Family and friends lit candles and prayed for 29-year-old Jean Carlos Ruiz.

"The person who physically had part in what ended in my brother and friend's life should reach out to the family and help them if he can," said Joseph Ochoa, a friend of Ruiz.

Ruiz was hit and killed as he waited for the bus along Northwest 72nd Avenue, just south of S.R. 836, on October 10. Police said Jonathan Eismann, a former restaurant chef and restaurateur in Miami, was fleeing an earlier crash.

Eismann was injured when his SUV hit a power pole. He was treated and released from the hospital.

Wednesday would have been Ruiz's four year wedding anniversary.

Ruiz is survived by his wife and a 1-year-old daughter.
