Woman, 2 children shot; Body found

Medical Examiner: Boy died at Jackson Memorial Hospital

MIAMI – A teenage girl, her brother, and their mother were shot at a home where the body of a 45-year-old man was also found, Miami fire officials say.

The incident happened at a home in the 2600 block of SW 24th Street in southwest Miami-Dade.

"I came outside the house and saw the first victim laying on the grass," said neighbor Xavier Cal. "I took cover because I didn't know who was shooting where."

When police arrived, they found the body of a man inside the home. The medical examiner's office identified the body as 45-year-old Carlos Zuniga.

The three people were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Trauma Center.

An 11-year-old boy sharing Zuniga's last name died at the hospital, according to the medical examiner's office. Police confirmed Thursday afternoon the man found dead inside the home was the boy's father.

The 14-year-old girl and her mother are reportedly in critical condition. Each was shot multiple times, say rescue crews.

"I heard another shot and police came outside with the daughter, who was also shot," Cal said.

"Some of these officers were seen running out of the house carrying a child to fire rescue," said Miami Police spokesman Willie Moreno.

It's unclear how Zuniga died.

According to Cal, his neighbors own a hot air balloon business.

"It's very sad, very sad, unbelievable that this happened," Cal said.
