"We were just watching our friend compete," he said. "We heard two blasts within about 10 seconds of each other. People running, flashing lights -- we knew something was wrong."

Carlin said he was about one block from the blast site and didn't know where his friend was.

"We were worried about our friend because he was in that area," said Carlin. "Luckily, he had finished and decided to go home, so we all met him at home and it ended up being a happy reunion."

The bombings killed three people and injured more than 170.

"It was very upsetting," said a woman who was vacationing in Boston and arrived in Miami Tuesday.

"We just have to keep going through our daily routines and hope for the best," added Carlin.
