Portman-CMC and Tishman Group are competing for the bid. The Miami Beach City Commission will choose one on July 17.

Both teams revamped their plans Friday after being asked to do so by city manager Jimmy Morales. His mandate eliminated residential developments, shelved any cultural components, and scaled back retail and restaurants. The call reflected a public debate over public land in private development and quality of life concerns more development brings.

A spokesman for Portman-CMC was awaiting final renderings before distributing them.
