Spence Jones reacts to court ruling preventing re-election bid

'Everything happens for a reason,' Spence Jones says

MIAMI – A day after a court ruling that prevents her from running for re-election, Miami Commissioner Michele Spence Jones says it's time to focus on family.

She says she accepts the appellate court's decision that she reached her 2-term limit, despite missing much of her second term while she was on suspension. Spence Jones fought criminal charges brought against her, and won.

She says she will remain active and involved in the community, but will likely join the private sector.

"Everything happens for a reason," she said. "Now it's time for me to focus on family. For the most part, it has been about politics. Now it's time to give them back the time they've lost."
