MIAMI – Authorities are looking for a hacker known as Sagade again.
The FBI identified Sagade as Peteris Sahurovs, of Latvia. His international cyber crimes have turned him into a millionaire, authorities said.
"Peteris utilized all his social engineering and Internet skills to defraud a multitude of U.S. companies," FBI Special Agent Robert Cameron said.
In one scheme, he claimed to work for an online advertising agency seeking to place advertisements on websites. The advertisements were electronic files that contained a malicious computer code, which infected users' computers.
Computer users would then get pop-up "security alert" windows requiring them to purchase antivirus software for $49.95. The infection froze computers.
