Man accused of stealing tow truck, crashing into apartment building

Daniel Lorido charged with carjacking Road Ranger tow truck

HIALEAH, Fla. – Police arrested a 21-year-old man who stole a Road Ranger tow truck and crashed it into an apartment building in Hialeah Wednesday morning.

"When I opened the door of the room, I see destruction," said building resident Reynaldo Aspuru.

Aspuru, his wife and their 3-year-old granddaughter were sleeping when the truck crashed into their bedroom.

According to Hialeah police, the tow truck was carjacked from Northwest 31st Street and 42nd Avenue about 4:06 a.m. The tow truck driver wasn't hurt, but the suspect, identified as Daniel Lorido, took off with the truck.

Police were in pursuit when Lorido (pictured below) lost control of the vehicle, barreled through a white metal fence, and crashed into the building.

Officers weren't far behind. They took Lorido into custody. He suffered only minor injuries but the impact sent shards of glass and chunks of concrete into the apartment's living room.

No one inside the building was hurt.

Lorido was treated at Jackson Memorial Hospital before he was arrested. Police charged him with carjacking and fleeing and eluding.
