Woman going to church hit by alleged drunk driver

Gun found in suspects vehicle

MIAMI – Brenda Morris is prayerful that her friend and church member, Shirley Watson, will pull through after being struck by a southbound red Toyota Tuesday evening around 7:30 p.m.

"We are saying lots of prayers tonight," said Morris.

"It was too horrific," said another church member.

It happened as Watson walked across North Miami Avenue at 42nd Street on her way to bible study at God's Storehouse Ministries in Miami's Design District.

"She just didn't see the car. She just walked right into it," a church member said.

Miami police cuffed the Toyota driver after he wrecked. They found a gun in his car, and arrested him for DUI.

Witnesses watched Watson, conscious and crying out in pain, as she was rushed to Ryder Trauma Center in the care of healthcare providers and in God's hands, her fellow church members said.

"Please keep us in your prayers."

Police are running the gun found in the suspects car to see if it's registered and , if so, who it may be registered to. No reports have been made as to whether the gun was loaded.
