School reopens after students get sick

More than 300 students got sick at Manatee Bay Elementary

WESTON, Fla. – Students returned to class at Manatee Bay Elementary in Weston on Monday after more than 300 of them reported feeling sick Friday.

"I'm like, 'Are you okay?' and then he just starts throwing up everywhere," said fifth grader Luciano Quiros. "There was nobody in my class. Only three people."

"Tons of kids were almost dropping like flies, getting really sick," said Jennifer Grassia.

Clean-up crews sanitized the school throughout the weekend.

"They spent the whole weekend cleaning everything, so it's supposed to be fine," said Maria Feiz, whose son got sick.

Officials with the Broward Health Department recommended students wash their hands with soap and water. Health officials believe water fountains spread the illness, so students and staff drank bottled water.

Symptoms included having an upset stomach, vomiting, fever, and diarrhea.
