Police: Boat with drugs washes ashore

Boat found near Oakland Park Boulevard

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A boat with marijuana on board washed ashore early Monday morning, according to Fort Lauderdale police.

Detectives tracked the vessel down along the shore near Oakland Park Boulevard. They found bags of marijuana on the boat and along the beach.

"I saw the blue flashing lights with three boats," said Gregory Louis. "For that thing to wash up on shore here -- and that's what I'm against. We don't need it."

"I seen what looked like a big, giant bale of marijuana," said Chuck Truman.

Half a mile of Fort Lauderdale Beach was closed for a few hours as police looked for more drugs and the people who were on board the boat.

"They are trying at this time to determine the owner of the vessel, to determine where that vessel's from," said Fort Lauderdale Police Det. DeAnna Greenlaw.
