Woman suffers from burns after boat explosion

Officials say woman was refueling boat when it exploded

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A woman was taken to the hospital Friday after officials say the boat she was on caught fire and exploded.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews said after 2:30 p.m. the woman was on board refueling the 18-foot Sea Ray boat when it exploded.

Firefighters responded to the fire, which they said took place next to their fire station, located at 801 Seabreeze Boulevard.

The woman was pulled from the water and taken to Broward Health suffering from burns, officials said. She was in stable condition.

Firefighters at the scene monitored the surrounding water for possible fuel and other contaminants minimizing any possible environmental contamination. The boat suffered heavy damage by the fire.

The exact cause of the explosion is under investigation.
