American Airlines flight crew overcome by fish fumes

Flight attendants taken to Miami hospital

MIAMI – Flight attendants with American Airlines were taken to a Miami hospital Monday afternoon when they were reportedly overcome by a strong odor.

WFAA reports the crew was aboard Flight 281 as it was preparing to take off on a scheduled flight to Los Angeles when the pungent smell entered the cabin.

A spokeswoman with American Airlines said the odor emanated from a leaking cargo bin filled with fish.

Passengers were not directly impacted by the fumes, but officials said they were forced to return to the terminal.

The airline delayed the flight for 5 hours to replace the crew, unload the aromatic cargo and clean things up, according to WFAA. The flight resumed its California journey Monday night.
