LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Family and friends of a 19-year-old woman who was shot and killed is raising money for her funeral and to raise awareness to find those responsible for her murder.

The shooting happened Monday night in Lauderhill while Nicole Grier was on her way to pick up her 11-month-old son.

Friends and family came together on New Year's Day to mourn the recent past and to prepare for the grueling future.

"We need to raise the money to bury her. We're selling T-shirts and today we're selling plates," said Katie Forman, Grier's relative. "It's very hard. It doesn't seem real."

According to eyewitnesses, Grier was ambushed, shot at least six times at very close range. She was outside the home where she goes every day to pick up her baby.

Witnesses said Grier had just placed her son, Jacari, in the back seat of her car. That's when two cars pulled up.

Satricia Jordan said she had just finished helping Grier to put the baby in the car when she saw a man stand up through the sunroof of one of the cars and start shooting. She said Grier was asking them to stop, but they just kept shooting.

Watkins said she never heard Watkins say anything about fearing anyone.

"I just feel sorry for her son," she said.

Eyewitnesses said a white Lexus was definitely involved in the incident. The second car was possibly a black BMW.

Police have not yet released any additional information.
