MIRAMAR, Fla. – Miramar won a $40,000 grant that focuses on improving the nation's cities through the development of community gardens and green spaces.
The 2014 GRO1000 Gardens and Green Spaces Grant Award was presented during the U.S Conference of Mayors' 82ND Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C.

Miramar was recognized for its "Intergenerational Fruit & Vegetable Garden" that includes a fruit grove, a culinary herb garden, a seedling nursery, raised beds and an outdoor classroom.
"What a great honor for us to receive this award, particularly for the many garden volunteers who donate their time, sweat and expertise to allow our garden to be successful. This grant will have a major impact on the future growth and success of our Community Garden," said Miramar Mayor Lori C. Moseley.
Other cities recognized along with Miramar included Tallahassee, Minneapolis, Mesa and Houston.
