Wrongful-death lawsuit filed against Lamborghini driver

Lawsuit alleges negligence in MacArthur Causeway crash that killed vodka magnate

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The family of a vodka magnate killed in a crash on the MacArthur Causeway last month has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the driver.

Dr. Malcolm Lloyd was killed April 24 when the Lamborghini in which he was a passenger slammed into a Chevrolet Suburban that was stopped at a red light. Lloyd was the founder, chairman and CEO of Old Nassau Imports.

Police said Andres Toro, Lloyd's brother-in-law, was driving more than 100 mph at the time of the crash. He faces charges of DUI manslaughter and DUI causing serious bodily injury.

The lawsuit, filed on behalf of Lloyd's family, alleges intentional misconduct, gross negligence and a reckless disregard for the welfare of Lloyd.

Andres Toro was the driver of a Lamborghini that slammed into an SUV on the MacArthur Causeway, killing his passenger and injuring another man.

Lloyd's sisters spoke via Skype at Monday's news conference announcing the lawsuit.

"What was he thinking?" April Harb said of Toro. "How could he have possibly gotten into that car after drinking as much as he did?"

Lloyd is survived by a wife and two sons.
