Pembroke Pines students rank high in Nat'l Scrabble competition

Walter C. Young Middle students rank 6 in nation out of 68 teams

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – The Scrabble team from Walter C. Young Middle in Pembroke Pines has returned from competition and was ranked 6th in the nation out of 68 teams.

The teams comprised of 4th to 8th graders, traveled to Providence, Rhode Island where the National School Scrabble Tournament brings together students from across the U.S. and Canada.

"It's a fun way to get the kids to learn, a lot of times they don't realize that there's education behind it," says Diane Harrison, a Walter C. Morgan teacher and Scrabble coach.
