Man traveled to 26 countries for 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)' lip-sync proposal video

Proclaimers' song inspired University of Montana student

Jay Hyer said he traveled to 26 countries to put together a video he used to propose to his girlfriend.

The Scottish-born Proclaimers' song  "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" about a man willing to travel for a woman to proclaim his love inspired Jay Hyer.

Hyer,21, said he knew he would marry Becca Strellnauer, 22, on their first date. He created a video of him singing the song in Vietnam, Africa, Israel, China, Paris, Hong Kong and 20 other countries.

"I heard that song and the lyrics and I wrote down in the journal where I wanted to go and what lyrics would go along with each place," Hyer told ABC News.

Hyer and Strellnauer dated briefly as teens in Whitefish, Montana, and reconnected at the University of Montana in Missoula. On May 17, Hyer showed her the video in front of family and friends, and got down on one knee to formally propose.

"As I said when I proposed to her, the greatest adventure in my life is her and now I want to travel with her as opposed to alone," Hyer said. Strellnauer said yes.
