At least 15 vehicles damaged at Fort Lauderdale Tri-Rail station
Unclear if anything was stolen from vehicles
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Security officials for Tri-Rail say they will have more officers on patrol until they find the people responsible for vandalizing at least 15 vehicles at a Fort Lauderdale station.
Security officers noticed the damaged vehicles around 2 a.m. Friday.
It is unclear whether anything was stolen from the vehicles. One woman says the crook(s) rummaged through her belongings but she had nothing valuable inside her car to take.
Another Tri-Rail passenger says her car wasn't broken into, but she wishes Tri-Rail stations would install security cameras. Tri-Rail officials say they do not have the budget to do so.
Meanwhile, shuttle bus driver Shelly Baron says he's been impressed with the security during the day.
"These security guards come out here and check cars," said Baron. "So this must have happened last night or late last night after the train stopped running."
Tri-Rail officials say there are currently just two overnight checks on cars parked at the Fort Lauderdale Tri-Rail station.
