Second suspect arrested in connection to fatal shooting during dominoes game

Melvin Clark III arrested in Opa-locka

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A second suspect was arrested Friday in connection with a fatal shooting in March while the victim was playing dominoes with friends.

Mervin Clark III, 25, was arrested Friday on Willington Street in Opa-Locka and faces charges for first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Roderick Simmons, 30.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies previously arrested Tyrell Cobbin, 24, after he was found hiding at a friend's house the Friday following the shooting.

The shooting occurred just before 11 p.m. March 19 as Simmons played dominoes with his friends in front of his house, deputies said.

Witnesses told detectives a vehicle pulled up and the occupants opened fire almost immediately while demanding money that was supposedly owed.

Deputies said Simmons and another man were shot.

Bonnie Lockhart, 30, was treated for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Both men face two counts of attempted murder and remain in custody.
