15 displaced by fire at Lauderhill apartment complex

Fire spread through roof, investigators say

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – More than a dozen residents were displaced after a fire broke out at a Lauderhill apartment complex early Wednesday morning.

The fire happened in the 5700 block of Northwest 27th Court about 3:30 a.m.

Residents told Local 10 News they were startled from their sleep by firefighters banging on their doors and windows.

Investigators said the fire started outside the duplex before spreading through the roof.

"The fire made it into the building through the roof and started spreading laterally through the building and began to occupy the three apartments," Lauderhill Fire-Rescue Division Chief Jeff Levy said.

A total of 15 people were displaced.

The intense flames left a huge hole in the roof.

Residents were being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
