Worker's arm caught in wood chipper in Boca Raton

Man taken to Delray Medical Center

BOCA RATON, Fla. – A construction worker was taken to a South Florida hospital Thursday after his arm got caught in a wood chipper.

The accident happened inside the Boca Pointe gated community, just north of Hillsboro Boulevard, in Boca Raton.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Capt. Albert Borroto said the worker was taken to the trauma center at Delray Medical Center. His condition was not immediately known.

Lisa Favor, who lives in the community, said she was "nauseated" upon hearing what happened. She served water and snacks to the man's co-worker after the accident.

"They are really shaken up," Favor said. "They are in shock and all sitting down."

This is the second South Florida construction accident involving a wood chipper in less than a month.

In June, Hernan Gutierrez was killed after he was somehow pulled into a wood chipper while cleaning debris on Pine Island Road in Davie.
