Body of woman pulled from Tamarac canal ID'd

Lillian Sornik, 93, ID'd Tuesday night

TAMARAC, Fla. – The body of an elderly woman who was found inside a car in a Tamarac canal Tuesday has been identified.

Lauderhill divers pulled the body of Lillian Sornik, 93, from the Kia that was in the water off Bailey Road.

"A passerby in the area saw a vehicle plunge into the canal along Bailey Road," Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion told Local 10 News.

Concepcion said divers broke the window and pulled Sornik out of the car.

It's unclear how Sornik's car ended up in the canal.

Sornik's body was taken to the medical examiner's office so an autopsy could be conducted.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but authorities said it appeared to be an accident.
